I woke up and found three messages on my inbox: two messages from Yang and a message from Bea. I read Yang’s first.
“Choose your friends wisely! Because you may not know if that so called “friend” of yours is also the one who’s going to stab you first in the back.. FYI: if you’re a real friend, you don’t have to put her in a humiliating position and let her do something stupid in her life! Well I wouldn’t blame her because she took advices to a stupid person too. You would not tell us about what is going on because you are worried that we would get our share for the pizza? Fuck that pizza! Eat it all! We don’t care about that because we are worried about the welfare of our friend! And anyways, I could treat both sections of pizza if I want to, I can do that! If you’re wondering why I’m angry, it’s because you’re hiding something from us and you also think that we want to have a share in the pizza and also your bet! Fuck! Let’s just forget each other!”
That was odious of her.
I already had a suspicion that Jelia told them the truth, ever since the dare started, Jelia wanted to tell Jerah and Yang everything that had happened to me.
I immediately compose another text message, but I decided not to send it to her first before confiding to my circle of friends.
When I arrived at school, I saw Jelia talking to Claire, surely the topic was all about Yang’s text message.
Me: Jelia.
Jelia: Hi Rose!
Me: You’re the one who told Yang everything right?
Jelia: Yes.
Me: Why?
Jelia: Because I want them to know it too… and besides they might get worried. I’m worried.
Me: Why did you do that? We planned that no one, even Yang and Jerah, know about the bet. Now look what happened! Yang’s making a fuss about this and she’s angry, and Bea’s the one who’s going to be blamed!
Jelia: We are really worried about you Rose, and they have the right to know it.
Me: look, I said yes to the dare, so it is my full responsibility when it comes to controlling my feelings and besides… I’m not the one who you guys should be worried about, what about Bea?
Jelia: So what are you going to do? Let us do what we want and let your feelings hide? Be a Martyr? Let you suffer?
Me: Yes. And it’s my fault if I did fall in-love with Marc and not you.
Jelia’s face was shock yet serious and I couldn’t blame her because I just pushed away her concerned feelings to me. I was angry, because everything went right and then another disaster came just to destroy my “make-believe” happiness.
Claire: guys, why don’t we prioritize our Philippine History quiz? I think this is more important than that argument.
So we did, and resume our talk after the class.
“Secrets cannot be hidden forever; every wrong decision made has its consequences.” That’s what Claire said when I just came from the outer space; we were at a fastfood chain talking about Yang’s group message that was sent to us.
“Hey, I have a text message to send her.. you wouldn’t mind do you?” I asked Claire, Janelle, Jelia and Melody.
“Oh sure.” Claire said.
“But I want you guys to listen to it first.” I said.
“This dare is just a game; a game ridiculously started in just a split second. This game, as one who enters it, considers oneself, abominably insane.”
“Nosebleed.” Claire said.
“moving on… But this game is secretly played, no one knows except the players, but secret as it is, no one dared to tell.. but the players let others notice it. This game continues discreetly until unexpected turn of events made the game master in such a humiliating situation.”
“Would Yang understand it?” Melody asked.
“Of course, she’s intelligent. Hmmm.. where am I? Oh! One thing’s for sure this game was played in a safe manner, but dangerous in such a way others who notice might conceive it in such a wrong manner. So, I, as the soldier piece of this chess game.. and the King who had been checkmated.”
“That’s too much drama.. you relate this to a Chess game?” Janelle said.
“Apologize for the wrong information disseminated by the unknown spy…”
“hahahaha! So I’m the unknown spy huh?” Jelia said
“ and will end the game because of unexpected emotions poured out by our friend.” I said.
“okay.” Claire said.
And I press send.
